The LSS-XL Gen2 chassis system was created as a variation of MDT's already popular LSS chassis, designed for compact, short-barreled rifles. Customers who enjoyed the LSS system, however, requested a fixed buttstock and a bipod that could be placed further forward. As a result, the first-generation LSS-XL chassis system was created with an extended forend and acceptance for fixed rifle stocks without any additional adapters.
Following the successful launch of the ESS chassis system, there were requests for similar features to be integrated into other chassis systems. As a response, MDT upgraded the LSS-XL chassis line with the Gen2 lineup, including a modern design for the system with M-Lok patterned attachment slots, a larger barrel channel suitable for barrels up to the action's diameter, ambidextrous magazine release, and barricade-stop grooves ahead of the mag-well, among others. The LSS-XL Gen2 chassis systems can be customized according to the accessories available on the market, with options for both carbine and fixed buttstock interfaces.
It is important to note, however, that only our Polymer magazines will work with the Howa 1500/Weatherby Vanguard short actions, the only action with a flat-bottomed action we manufacture the chassis for, and the fitting may need to be adjusted for proper feeding. Additionally, the bolt stop for .223 models may be too long; this can be easily modified. Moreover, the action does not sit in a V-Block, allowing the LSS-XL Gen2 chassis systems to free float barrels up to 1.350" diameter.
The LSS-XL Gen2 chassis system comes as a 1-piece chassis, including all necessary mounting hardware such as new action screws and a pistol grip screw. It also supports AICS-pattern external box magazines and M-Lok patterned accessories along the forend. The entire system is CNC machined from 6061 aluminum with a black or flat dark earth cerakote finish and is lightweight between 1.6lb - 2.0lb, depending on the rifle model.
To complete the LSS-XL Gen2 chassis system, a customer needs to purchase an AR-15 buttstock, buffer tube, AR-15 pistol grip, and at least one magazine. The action screw should be installed after the magazine lever. It is also important to note that the chassis system does not work with 300 Blackout.
